I just had a customer in the dealership saying that the dealer down the road was giving him $4,000 for his trade-in. The problem here is that the trade-in was a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with over 200,000 miles, rust through and a bad transmission! How was the dealer doing that?
THE DEALER WAS KEEPING THE NEW CAR REBATES FOR HIMSELF AND NOT PASSING THEM THROUGH TO THE CUSTOMER !
When you buy a vehicle you are entitled to the rebates that the factory offers on the vehicle you are buying. It stands to reason if the dealer is going to steal the rebate from you he can show you more for your trade-in. So he takes your $6,000 rebate and gives you $4,000 for your trade! That is no deal.
Like I say, it's like someone giving you two $5 bills in exchange for your $20 and calling it a "two for one" sale. Hardly.
Just be aware that when someone says they are going to give you $4,000 for your trade-in no matter what condition the vehicle is in, the difference is being made up somewhere in the deal!
